A Song for Tu B’Shvat

“When you come into the land, you shall plant every tree first / and the tree shall yield its fruit and the land its produce / a time to plant trees, a time to plant and to build.” (Popular Hebrew song for Tu B’Shvat)

A time to plant and to stop the uprooting.
A time to build and to stop the destruction.
A time to love and not to kill.
A time for compassion and not for oppression.
A time for irrigation and not for devastation.
A time to save the orchard, and not to cut it down.
A time to open our hearts and our hands, and not to light fires of hate.
A time to look at our neighbors and see that they are people just like us.
A time to weep for the wounded and scarred trunks of the trees of hope.
A time to sow peace on this scorched earth.
A time to stop the bullies who ravage and uproot.
A time to choose life.
