MERCAZ Newsletter - Summer 2000 Hannaton Opens New Community This past February, Kibbutz Hannaton, the collective settlement affiliated with the Masorti Movement, opened registration for a new yishuv kehilati (residential community). The project, known as Kehila Be'Lev Ha'Emek ("The Heart of the Valley Community"), is one of several new residential communities being founded in the Jezreel Valley. The idea is to provide Israelis with the opportunity, on the one hand, to purchase private homes that are in the country and yet within reasonable commuting distances from big city employment and, on the other, to enjoy the educational and cultural services available at the adjacent kibbutz or moshav. Kehila Be'Lev Ha'Emek residents will be able to build one and two story private homes on 500 square meter plots on a site overlooking the Eshkol Reservoir adjacent to the key HaMovil Junction, a mere 12 minutes away from the Kirion Shopping Mall north of Haifa. They will also have the opportunity to become members of the Masorti synagogue at Kibbutz Hannaton and make use of the Rabbi Sidney and Betty Greenberg Educational and Recreational Center. |
