Countdown to the 34th Zionist Congress

In August 1897, Theodore Herzl convened in Basel, Switzerland, the first World Zionist Congress to launch the Zionist Movement. In June 2002, the 34th World Zionist Congress will be meeting in Jerusalem, the capital of the independent State of Israel. This will be the first such meeting of the new millenium and the second century of Zionism, but while conditions have certainly changed since that first meeting in 1897, the path to the Congress remains the same.
