MERCAZ
Newsletter - Spring 2005 MERCAZ Olami, the international Zionist arm of the Conservative/Masorti Movement, has produced a new Yom Yerushalayim/Jerusalem Reunification Day ceremony to help Masorti/Conservative Jews strengthen their connection to Jerusalem and to Israel. Yom Yerushalayim commemorates the IDF's capture of the Old City and the reunification of Jerusalem on the 28th of Iyar during the 1967 Six Day War. The MERCAZ Olami service can be used at any appropriate occasion during the days leading up to or following 28 Iyar, whether as part of a religious service or as a stand-alone program organized by the synagogue, Sisterhood, Men's Club or USY. The goal of the ceremony is to enrich the knowledge of the participants and to strengthen their feeling and connection toward Jerusalem through readings from traditional texts, modern speeches, poems, songs and thoughts from prominent Conservative scholars. A Yom Yerushalyim Resource Guide will also be available for use with the ceremony. Click here and scroll down to the banner for Yom Yerushalayim for the special MERCAZ Olami Yom Yerushalayim ceremony and leader's guide. For further information about the ceremony, please contact the MERCAZ Olami office: mercaz@masortiolami.org. |
