Newsletter - Fall 2004 Registration for Team Israel Mission #3 Registration for the Fall 2004 MERCAZ-United Synagogue Team Israel Mission
has opened. The special study mission, designed for synagogue lay and
professional leaders to gain new insights about life in Israel and ideas
as to how to develop more effective programs to provide greater awareness
about Israel for congregations, will run from October 26th to November
4th. Over and above airfare, participants will pay only $850 for land
accommodations (lodging, meals, transportation, lectures) in double occupancy,
thanks to a $700 per person subsidy being provided by the Jewish Agencys
Joint Program for Jewish/Zionist Education. For more information, contact
the MERCAZ office at 212-533-2061 or info@mercazusa.org.
Conservative Judaism to Publish Zionist Papers Conservative Judaism, the quarterly publication of the Rabbinical Assembly, is featuring in its Summer 2004 issue two of the papers those by Rabbi Reuven Hammer and Dr. David Breakstone that were delivered at the June 2003 MERCAZ-sponsored conference On the Place of Zionism in Conservative Judaism. To order a copy of the publication, send check or money order for $9 to Conservative Judaism, 3080 Broadway, New York, NY 10027. Next Shlichut Focuses on Seaboard Region Following the successful MERCAZ sponsored speaking tour to the Great Lakes and Rivers Region this past April, MERCAZ has gotten the green light from the Jewish Agencys Aliyah Department and the Israel Aliyah Centers to plan another short-term Masorti Aliyah Promotion shlichut for 2004, to focus on the Baltimore-Washington area in mid-November. While details for the short-term shlichut are still being worked out, it is expected that the shaliach/shlicha will be serving as a guest lecturer over Shabbat at two area synagogues and, in the days in between, will be speaking at Schechter-affiliated high schools, regional USY activities, KOACH college chapters and Rabbinical Assembly and USCJ regional offices. For more information, contact the MERCAZ office at 212-533-2061 or info@mercazusa.org.
