MERCAZ Newsletter — Fall 2006

MASORTI MOVEMENT RELIEF FUND

As this newsletter is being prepared, Israelis living in Haifa and the Galilee, fully one million people, have been forced into their bomb shelters and protected rooms in the face of hundreds of Katyusha rocket attacks launched by the Hizballah organization in southern Lebanon.

While there are many ways to help the people of Israel during this crisis, Conservative Jews are urged to contribute to the emergency relief fund that has been established by the Masorti Foundation. Through this fund, we have the opportunity to help our own movement, with its dozen Masorti congregations in Israel’s north, and the people of Israel at the same time.

All of our Masorti kehillot have been involved in mobilizing help for Israelis displaced from their homes or harmed in the missile attacks. Our camps and programs in Israel have taken children from the northern cities at no cost to house and care for. Our rabbis have been out and about counseling and being there for everyone.
