Rabbi Robert R. Golub – Executive Director of MERCAZ USA
Rabbi Robert R. Golub is the Executive Director of MERCAZ USA, the Zionist organization of the Conservative Movement. Ordained in 1978 by the Jewish Theological Seminary, Rabbi Golub served as both a congregational rabbi in the United States and a senior university administrator in Israel before coming to MERCAZ in 1995.
Rabbi Golub received both his BA and MA from UCLA. Following studies at the University of Judaism (now the Ziegler School of Rabbinics at the American Jewish University in Los Angeles) and congregational work in Long Island and New Jersey, Rabbi Golub moved to Israel in 1984, settling in Haifa. There he served as a high school rabbinics teacher and later as the Head of External Relations at the Technion. He returned to the United States in 1991 and came to MERCAZ four years later.
Besides his work for MERCAZ, Rabbi Golub has served as a frequent guest speaker at Shabbat and holiday services. He has taught a number of adult education classes on the history of Zionism and on modern Jewish thought in the tri-state area and has had articles published in such publications as the AJCongress Monthly and CJ – Voices of Conservative/Masorti Judaism, including most recently on the importance and implications of the 2010 World Zionist Congress.
MERCAZ USA is the Zionist representative of the Conservative Movement within the World Zionist Organization and the Jewish Agency. A grass-roots organization lobbying on behalf of Conservative/Masorti Judaism, MERCAZ is supported by individual and family memberships.
MERCAZ USA works together with MERCAZ Olami, the international umbrella for Conservative Judaism's Zionist affiliates in North and South America, Europe and Israel, to strengthen the connection between Israel and the Diaspora through Zionist education, political lobbying, Israel travel and aliyah.
